The new Saskatchewan draw targeted candidates with work experience in one of 63 occupations.

Saskatchewan held a new draw on July 21, inviting 280 immigration candidates to apply for a provincial nomination.

Invitations are sent to candidates who may be eligible for nomination under the Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP), particularly from the International Skilled Worker category. Of those invited, 84 may qualify for the SINP's Express Entry subcategory and 196 may qualify for the Occupational Needs subcategory.

Regardless of the process, invited candidates need an Expression of Interest (EOI) score of at least 77 to be invited. They also require an educational credential evaluation to demonstrate that their foreign education is comparable to Canadian standards. Also, work experience in one of the 63 in-demand occupations listed on the government webpage.

About the Occupations In-Demand subcategory

The Occupations In-Demand subcategory is a basic Provincial Nominee Program (PNP), which means it is open to immigration candidates who do not have an Express Entry profile.

This subcategory is for highly skilled workers who have in-demand occupational experience in Saskatchewan but have not yet secured a job offer in the province.

In order to apply for Canadian immigration through this subcategory, foreign nationals need to create an EOI file through SINP's online application system.

Saskatchewan's EOI system allows the province to select immigration candidates who have the potential to thrive in the Prairies. Candidates will be assessed on how their work experience, education, language proficiency, age and ties to the province demonstrate their ability to settle in Saskatchewan.

They are then scored out of 100 on the SINP's International Skilled Worker Points Assessment Form. An invitation is then issued to the highest scoring candidates to apply for a provincial nomination for Canadian permanent residence.

About the Express Entry sub-category

The Express Entry subcategory is an enhanced PNP, which means it is associated with the federal Express Entry system.
Express Entry manages the pool of candidates for Canada's three main economic immigration programs: the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class Program.

Candidates with an Express Entry profile must also create an Expression of Interest profile for Saskatchewan in order to be considered for an invitation to apply for a provincial nomination.

Express Entry candidates who receive a provincial nomination from Saskatchewan will be awarded an additional 600 points to receive CRS points at the federal level and effectively guarantee an invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence.
